Bored at work, so time to dream about my next daily driver...

So I am still about 9-12 months away from buying, but as I said, I'm bored at work.

The car will need to have some character, and I will more than likely put my own personal touches to it in one way or another. Not looking for a crazy machine since it will be my daily driver and haul the family around from time to time. Plus that is what my Evo IV will be for.
And my wife needs to at least find it tolerable since she will drive it some of the time as well, and she enjoys driving. She shot down the idea of me getting a new Mirage hatch.

Here are some of the contenders so far.

G8 GT:

IS (could be a 2nd or 3rd gen, would like to find an F-sport model, but who knows):

Lancer Ralliart (pictured) OR Evo X:

Last but not least, Chevy Volt (I don't quite have my wife sold on this one yet):

I've been looking at fun sedans for years, even owned a 2009 IS. It was ok, but not what I would consider "fun". Personally the G8 checks off most of my fun boxes and has a good amount of room. Also consider a CTS-V if you can find a good used one in the same price range! R/T or SRT-8 Charger?

Cross off the Volt. Evos are a bit rough for DD. IS-F is tiny and cramped inside. Get the G8

I would go with the G8 or the IS. IS will give you the reliability of a Toyota and the parts for the G8 will be harder to find since the car is discontinued. Don't go with the FWD Lancer or Volt. I know your wife will be driving the car also but don't you want to have some fun when you take it out for a drive? RWD anyday!

I'm leery of the Cadillac "because American made", and also because I have not really looked into them. But I may once it gets time to buy.

And no on the Chryslers.

My wife tells me if I'm going for a Ralliart, why not just save up a little more and go for an Evo X. So yeah.

It would not be a FWD Lancer. It would be the Lancer Ralliart (Evo-lite). Not the lame, older Ralliarts.

Oh come on, you're iffy on American made? The CTS V's are great cars, I haven't heard any complaints about them. It's not like you're looking at a mid 90s FWD Caddy Boat. Things have changed!

Parts availability should not be an issue on the G8 it shares with globally sourced GM vehicles and even the new SS for some parts. If you're talking about body parts, it shouldn't be an issue either. If he were to get real desperate, could have fun and turn it into a Holden! (sounds like a win to me!)
